The Coles ADC Agreement provides for a paid rest break of 20 minutes on shifts longer than 4 hours and also an unpaid meal break of 30 minutes if your shift is longer than 5 hours.
There have been questions raised about how the paid rest break is taken and where members should clock on and off for their break times.
Following productive discussions between local Coles ADC management and the SDA the issue of where to clock off and on, walking time and break time has been clarified as follows:
- Clock off for your rest break at your work location;
- You then have up to 5 minutes walking time (depending on where you are in the ADC) allowed for you to go from your work location to the break room;
- 20 minute paid rest break time or 30 minutes unpaid meal break;
- Up to 5 minutes walking time (depending on your work location in the ADC) to enable you to go from the break room to your work location; and
- Clock back on from your rest break at your work location.
Walking time will be variable depending on your work location but up to 5 minutes is designed to cover the longest distance from receiving to the break room. This is a practical and common sense solution following productive discussions.
